MOTHMAN: ORIGINS

When Susquehanna Coal reopens the long-abandoned Derby Springs Mine in rural West Virginia, the crew breaks through into a cavern that should not exist. Inside are dozens of dark, leathery casings arranged along the walls, each one containing something alive. Within hours, two men are dead, a eight-foot winged creature is loose in the hills of Raleigh County, and Sheriff Harry McGill is standing at the center of a crisis that no amount of training prepared him for. As the body count rises and the casings begin to hatch, Harry and folklore researcher Ellen Masterson uncover a corporate cover-up stretching back to 1966, a secret connection to the Mothman legend of Point Pleasant, and a biological truth far more dangerous than any myth.

But the greatest threat may not be the creatures themselves. Every time frightened humans reach for a gun, the situation gets worse. Every time they back away, the violence stops. Now Harry must convince a terrified community, a desperate coal company, and the full weight of the federal government that the answer is not extermination but something far harder to accept: leaving the monsters alone. Because deep beneath the mountains of Appalachia, a mother has been guarding her young for sixty years. And she will not stop.
