A BOUNTY IN SILVER

ABIS_3D.png

New Mexico Territory, 1883. Bounty hunter Wade Rusk has followed outlaw Silas Doyle across two territories to Harlan’s Crossing, a booming silver town in the foothills of the Mogollon Mountains. Doyle is worth fifteen hundred dollars alive, but by Wade’s first morning in town he’s lying dead at an abandoned prospect with his pockets turned out. Someone staged the scene to look like a robbery and did it badly. The deputy marshal waves it off, the inquest takes less than an hour, and mining baron Lucius Vane offers Wade the full bounty out of his own pocket if he’ll leave town quietly.

Wade doesn’t leave. Riding the claims along Coyote Ridge, he finds empty cabins, convenient cave-ins, and Apache raids the Army never saw. Every independent miner who wouldn’t sell has ended up beaten, buried, or gone. Helped by a sharp-eyed saloon woman, a stubborn newspaper editor, and a young stable hand who won’t be left behind, Wade starts following a trail that leads to something worth far more than silver. But the men who run Harlan’s Crossing have dug into the past Wade left in Texas, and they mean to bury him with it.
